Setting the Price for Domain Names
You determine the asking price for the domains you list. However, the price limit for a domain listing is $50,000. To list a domain for more than $50,000, you must purchase a Certified Appraisal and the domain must appraise for at least $25,000. When determining your domain's value, consider the following:
- Domain name length
- Short domain names are easier for visitors to remember, and a short, catchy name is more likely to receive your preferred asking price.
- Keywords
- Domain names that include sought-after keywords generate more traffic and higher interest from potential buyers.
- Name
- Domains that include popular names or phrases, especially words or phrases that follow current trends, generate higher interest from potential buyers. Domain names must not infringe on third party trademarks.
- Top-level domain (TLD)
- The .com TLD is the most popular with buyers. Other TLDs, such as .org, might limit the versatility of the domain or imply a certain type of site resides on the domain. In some cases, a country code TLD (ccTLD) is better for domains, such as using a .fr ccTLD for a domain that contains French.
- Search engine ranking
- For a domain listing that includes Web site content, it may retain its current search engine ranking after the sale is concluded. Search engine rankings are subject to continual changes, and changing Web site content may impact a domain's ranking. Highly ranked domains generate higher interest from potential buyers.
After you determine the value of your domain, you can decide the price for which you want to list it in your Offer/Counter Offer, Buy Now, or Public Auction listings. For more information about your options for listing domains, see Understanding Selling and Listing Options.
