About Sidebar Components
The Sidebar is the area on your Quick Blogcast page that contains quick links to specific information pertaining to your blog. You can customize which components display, the order in which they appear, and even change their titles.
Available Components
Depending on where you place your sidebar items, you can include any, all, or none of the following components in your side bar (listed in alphabetical order):
- Bio Link
- Adds a biography and image to the sidebar.
- Blogroll
- Allows you to list hyperlinks to other Web sites. This is generally used to link to other blogs.
- Calendar
- Inserts a calendar with links to dates that contain entries that you set. Visitors click on the date to open the entries for that day.
- Category Archives
- Displays an archived list of entries in your blog, organized by categories.
- Comment Showcase
- Displays featured comments, or showcased comments, which you select from the Manage Comments area. For more information about selecting comments to display in the Showcase, see Managing Comments.
- Created With Quick Blog
- Adds a graphic that links to the Quick Blog page.
- Custom Text
- For paid Quick Blog users, Custom Text allows you to add custom text/HTML to your sidebar.
- Feed List
- Lists hyperlinks to all RSS and Atom feeds for your blog.
- Google Ad
- For paid Quick Blog users who have signed up for Google® AdSense and Google® Ad lists advertisements.
- Hit Counter for Podcasts
- Adds a hit counter to your podcast entries. The hit counter displays how many times a podcast has been played. You can add your podcast hit counter from the Podcast Settings Page. Simply go to the podcast tab on the settings page and select Yes from the Show Times Played list.
- Home Link
- Adds a link back to your blog's main page.
- Monthly Archives
- Adds an archive of entries in your blog organized by month.
- Quick Blogcast Player
- Visitors to your site can listen to, or watch, your podcast while continuing to browse your site or the Internet with the new sidebar media player. Just add the player to your sidebar; when a visitor clicks the player, a new podcast player window opens. This allows listeners to enjoy your podcast without having to remain on the blogcast page.
- Recent Comments
- Adds a list of recent comments to entries in your blog.
- Recent Entries
- Adds a list of recent entries to your blog.
- Search
- Inserts a search field, so visitors can find your blog entries they are interested in. Visitors now have the option of performing a basic search, using keywords to search only in titles, or an advanced search, specifying the location (titles, content, all) and a date range for the entry search.
- Subscribe Via Email
- Adds a link to a subscription form that enables subscribers to receive entries and comments through email. This displays on the sidebar under the heading Subscribe.
- Twitter Link
- Adds a Twitter link to your sidebar. Twitter is a social blogging service that allows users to submit posts through instant messaging, SMS, or the Twitter Web site.
Component Locations
Components can be placed in the following areas:
- Active Components
- In the Active Components area, you can view a list of all the components you've selected to use in your sidebar.
- Cloneable Components
- In the Cloneable Components area, you can view a list of the components you can add multiple times.
- Deleted Components
- In the Deleted Components area, you can view a list of the components you recently deleted. They are permanently deleted from the sidebar when you click Save.
- Available Components
- In the Available Components area, you can view a list of the components that are not currently on your blog but are available for adding to it.
To Add a Component to Your Sidebar
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- In the My Products section, click Quick Blogcast.
- Click Manage Account next to the blog account you want to modify.
- From the Design Blog menu, select Sidebar.
- From the Available Components list, drag the item you want to add to your sidebar into the Active Components list.
To Remove a Component from Your Sidebar
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- In the My Products section, click Quick Blogcast.
- Click Manage Account next to the blog account you want to modify.
- From the Design Blog menu, select Sidebar.
- In the Active Components list, click the double-right arrow next to the component you want to remove from your sidebar.
To Delete a Blogroll or Custom Text Component
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- In the My Products section, click Quick Blogcast.
- Click Manage Account next to the blog account you want to modify.
- From the Design Blog menu, select Sidebar.
- In the Active Components list, click the X next to the component you want to delete.
Quick Blogcast moves the component to the Deleted Components list. - Click Save.
To Arrange the Components on Your Sidebar
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- In the My Products section, click Quick Blogcast.
- Click Manage Account next to the blog account you want to modify.
- From the Design Blog menu, select Sidebar.
- Drag the item you want to move to the new position.
