Traffic Facts Data Definitions
The following terms are used within Traffic Facts. These definitions also exist on the Glossary tab of the Traffic Facts help system.
- Average
- Refers to an arithmetic average, where the sum of values is divided by the number of values.
- Browser
- A program used to locate and view Web pages. The most common Web browsers are Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox. Others include Opera and Safari.
- Conversion
- When a visitor clicks on an advertisement, certain information is sent to the browser. If a purchase is made as a result, it is called a conversion. Real Time Traffic Facts is able to track the client's path through the site, carrying the ad information with it, so that the conversion can be associated with the advertisement. This is called conversion tracking.
- Count
- An incrementor that can be applied to any measurable site-browsing behavior.
- Country
- The originating country of the visitor's IP address.
- Date
- Date range (hourly, daily, or monthly) for the reported information.
- Extension
- Describes a file's type.
- File
- The name of a specific file on your Web site.
- Hits
- Refers to a single request from a Web browser for exactly one item from a Web server. Consequently, for a Web browser to display a page that contains four graphics, five hits are required--one for the page itself and one for each of the four graphics.
- Host name
- Name of the hosting Internet Service Provider (ISP).
- IP Address
- Identifies a computer connected to the Internet.
- KB
- Kilobytes. One kilobyte equals one thousand bytes. Used to measure data transfer.
- MB
- Megabytes. One megabyte equals one thousand kilobytes. Used to measure data transfer.
- Operating system
- The operating system running on the computer accessing the site.
- Page
- Specific page requested or accessed by visitors.
- Page views
- The number of times a specific page has been requested by site visitors.
- Path
- Navigation path taken by a visitor during a single session.
- Percentage
- Calculated based on the records displayed (not total records) for a particular report. When the number of records displayed for a report changes, percentages are recalculated.
- Real Time
- Refers to Traffic Facts' ability to take in stats and display them in near real-time reports so the effects of site changes can be seen within minutes.
- Region
- Originating region and country of the visitor's IP address.
- Requests
- Refers to the number of times content is served up by a Web server to a requesting Web browser.
- Time
- Cumulative amount of time of a site visit. The format is minutes:seconds.
- Unique visitors
- The number of unique visitors to the site, calculated by counting returning visitors as one.
- Visitors
- The number of visits to the site, including unique and returning visitors.
